White Gold vs Yellow Gold vs Rose Gold: Which to Choose? | AkshR Diamonds

18K Gold band with AkshR branding

Browse AkshR Diamonds and you'll notice every piece is available in three metals: yellow gold, white gold, and rose gold. The metal you choose affects how the diamond looks, how the piece feels to wear, and how it needs to be maintained.

Understanding Gold Alloys

Pure 24K gold is too soft for daily wear. All jewellery uses an alloy, at 18K, 75% pure gold plus other metals for durability. The colour comes from those alloying metals:

  • Yellow gold: alloyed with silver and copper in roughly equal proportions.
  • White gold: alloyed with palladium or silver, then rhodium-plated for a bright white finish.
  • Rose gold: alloyed with a higher proportion of copper, creating the warm pink hue.

Yellow Gold — Warmth, Tradition, Zero Maintenance

Yellow gold carries deep cultural resonance in India, the gold of heritage, gifting, and celebration. Its warm tone is universally flattering and requires no plating maintenance. It's also forgiving of slightly lower diamond colour grades (I–J appear whiter against yellow gold).

Best for: classic aesthetics, Indian wedding contexts, I–K colour diamonds.

White Gold — Contemporary, Brilliant, Diamond-Maximising

White gold provides a cool, neutral background that maximises the apparent brilliance of a diamond. Higher colour grade diamonds (D–H) are best showcased in white gold. Requires rhodium re-plating every 1–2 years, a quick professional service.

Best for: modern aesthetics, maximising brilliance, D–H colour diamonds.

Rose Gold — Romantic, Modern, Distinctly Individual

Rose gold's colour is inherent to the alloy, no plating required. Its warm pink tone creates a romantic contrast with diamonds and has been powerfully fashionable over the last decade. Particularly beautiful with warmer skin tones and oval or pear shapes.

Best for: romantic and fashion-forward aesthetics, warm skin tones, oval and pear cut diamonds.
